Artist Profile - Lia Williams

Lia was born in Holland in 1948. She has enjoyed painting for more than 18 years. Her first love was with oil paints, but in the last few years she has also been captivated by the translucent and fresh appeal of watercolours. Lia finds real inspiration in the picturesque Yarra Valley in which she lives. The Sea and surrounding areas also appeal as painting subjects.

Lia is a member of the Ringwood Art Society, and was also on the committee, and a past council member of The Australian Guild of Realist Artists. She has studied under Kevin Boucher who gave her a good understanding of oil painting. Lia has also studied under Herman Pekel, David Taylor, Greg Allen and Ron Muller, taking technique from them, to develop her own style in Water Colour.

Over the last 12 months Lia has also developed her own style of Contemporary paintings that show her flair and creativity, including a diverse application of mixed media.

Lia has been teaching for over 10 years, and has pleasure in teaching all techniques in both oil and water colour. Her enthusiasm is passed on to her students in a relaxed and pleasurable class.

Lia has sold and exhibited for over 18 years, as well as being commissioned to paint private properties. Lia was the winner of the Distinction Award for 1997 at the Ringwood Art Society, and recipient of numerous other awards.

She has paintings hanging in private collections in Victoria, N.S.W, Queensland, and overseas in Holland, England, Canada and Japan.
